Test RFID in your business

Following two collective test campaigns, the GS1 France RFID laboratory is now able to provide a support service to individual businesses. Going by the name of “Discovering RFID”, this offer will enable you to see how the technology meets the needs and requirements of your own company. GS1 will send its specialists to one of your business locations to carry out a detailed assessment of RFID performance in your specific context.

The GS1 Summuer University, technologies & responsability

Is technology standardisation a form of activism?
The role of a standardisation body like GS1is to promote the development and use of information and communication technologies in a responsible, sustainable and committed way. Improving services to consumers through a technology such as RFID necessarily raises a number of issues. In the opinion of some, there is a serious risk of failing to leverage these growth factors. Others think that an unacceptable limit is about to be crossed. Where is the dividing line? How can it be assessed? How can these technologies be developed in an ethical and sustainable way? Click here to find out more.

GS1 commits to the international development of UN standards

GS1 France and UN/CEFACT have been working in close co-operation for a long time. At the 10th UN/CEFACT Forum from March 26 to 30 2007 in Dublin, Ireland, the largest delegation was from GS1, with 12 people from the Global Office and GS1 member countries. As part of that delegation, GS1 France demonstrated its strong commitment by providing its support and input to the Forum’s discussions on the Supply Chain, Transport & Logistics, eGovernment and Agriculture. In addition to sharing its knowledge and experience, the GS1 delegation also took on a number of strategic functions in various UN/CEFACT working groups. The next meeting is to be held in Stockholm, Sweden from September 34 to 28 2007. For more details, contact our eCom coordinator Natascha Pottier.

2007 : the year invoices go paperless

In response to the increasing resolve of French retailers to implement electronic invoicing systems, GS1 is to hold an event addressing the question. All the retailers currently involved in the process are expected to take part, notably Auchan, Carrefour, Casino and Metro, who will report on the status of their “electronic invoicing” projects, and explain the way forward in the next few months. The event will take place in Paris towards the end of June, at a date to be announced soon.

Textiles : a new take on stock-taking!

The 15 March meeting on “RFID applications in textiles and clothing” was attended by some forty participants from the trade. It provided an opportunity to underline the advantages of this technology for some applications, first and foremost, store stock-taking. GS1 France has therefore decided to schedule another meeting on the same topic in its offices on May 29, from 9.30 am to 1 pm.

Traceability solutions: what do they do and how do you choose them?

Successful traceability is largely a question of choosing the right tools. The enormous range of products on the market claiming to provide traceability can be confusing and make it difficult to pick exactly the right one for your requirements. GS1 Partners offers to help you assess the different types of solution and give the guidance to make the right choice for your needs. A number of specific examples will be used to illustrate the different ways in which today’s tools address the issue of traceability. GS1 Partners conference at SPILOG, Lyon, on April 26 2007.
